Simply White

This past week I decided to repaint the kitchen.  A white kitchen has always been something I've wanted as far as cabinets go, but it never occurred to me to paint the walls white as well.  And hey, it's a lot easier since it doesn't matter if I get paint on the trim.  :) I was really growing tired of the color on the walls, which was Light Gray by Farrow and Ball and darker than I usually like so it was time for a change.

I chose the perfect shade of white, in my opinion.  Simply White by Benjamin Moore.  And when I say perfect shade of white, I'm not exaggerating.  So far, I've painted my kitchen with it, as well as several pieces of furniture, a door and probably whatever else I can find that needs repainting.

It's simply white and that's why I love it.  The perfect creamy white color.  And a very calming kitchen.

It really makes the walnut and barn wood in my kitchen pop.

My hubby found this amazing rusty, beat up metal basket at the metal salvage yard this weekend and I fell in love with it.  I popped this metal number on it and filled it with my ramekins and tin molds and I smile every time I look at it.  I love rusty finds like that.

My next project for the kitchen is to rip out the countertop and install a new barn wood top.

I can't wait!

And it's always fun working on projects with this guy..... :)

What do you think of simply white?

  1. I love the new color, the white and natural wood look really good together. I must say I really adore the green door. I am going to show my husband in hopes that we can do something different with our kitchen door and I would like to add some color.

  5. Oh, I love Simply White! Our ceilings, trim, and some furniture are that shade and it goes with everything, contrasting perfectly. My favorite part is how it glows from within a little.
I've been thinking about painting my oak cabs, but I'm afraid to paint them such a pure white... You're giving me hope that it can be done.

    1. Hi Bethany! The first time I painted our wood cabinets white in our first house, I was scared to death. But I went for it and was so happy with the results and never want dark wood cabinets again. You can do it and you will love it! :) Thanks for stopping by!

    2. Also, if you are worried about keeping them clean, I use those Mr. Clean Erasers and a tiny bit of water to scrub dirt, smudges and handprints from our white cabinets and it works perfectly. :)

  15. I've been planning on painting my rooms in a white (Dove White by BM), but I'll be running right out for a sample of Simply White before I decide. Thanks for the tip. Totally love how your kitchen looks!

  19. I think it looks great! The simpler, the better. You have the perfect amount of "stuff", which I am attempting to achieve myself. I have a terrible tendency to keep adding more "stuff", as editing is hard. I am loving the green door still and wondering what the color is?

    1. Hi Carol, I constantly have to make myself put things away cause I tend to want more "stuff" out, too. It's hard finding a balance, isn't it? The color of the door is called Spanish Green and it is a Valspar Signature Color from Lowes. Thanks for stopping by! :)

  22. I LOVE LOVE LOVE it!! I've been contemplating painting mine white - from a colorful , tuscan mustard yellow wash with apple green and dark red on the accents. I DID paint the cabinets white. But my husband is resisting! He likes it cheerful and bright! UGH!! Maybe I'll just do it one day while he's at work! Shhh!

  24. I would love to know.....how is it holding up to finger prints, dirt and scuffs? I'd love to paint my kitchen white, but I am terrified that after a week it would look so beat-up from my kids! :)

  26. Hi Diana, although I'm a new subscriber, I noticed that, except the wall color you changed few more things: the Jute rug- good choice, the shelves- you brought back the wooden ones, whom I love so much, new inscription appeared instead of the "family". All of the changes are really improvement. But I miss the Grey color...it was more dramatic, because not only wood popped up but the white cabinets and window framing. Thank's for sharing. Oh, the rusty thing is sweet, brrrr.

  27. I love it! It looks great as does all your house. I like
this new canning cupboard, but I as I commented...I really

    you kept it.....Corinne
love the photo of your best friend there who keeps you company

  33. Your kitchen looks beautiful! I never get tired of looking at photos of it. I agree, Simply White is the perfect white. We've used it all throughout our old house, including kitchen walls and cabinets. :-) And I think barn wood countertops will be perfect... my hubby and father-in-law made our kitchen countertops from 100 yr old reclaimed barn wood and they are my favorite thing in our entire house. Have a great day!

  37. Hi Diana,

I'm a recent follower of your blog in the last few months, I actually found it while looking for some cutting boards and was blown away by the content of your blog.

I LOVE your kitchen, and have been toying with the idea of painting ours white. It's VERY small (8x10) so it's important to make it feel much larger than it is to avoid claustrophobia ;)

I must ask - where did you get your open shelving? I ADORE the thickness of the wood on the shelves.

  38. This is my dream kitchen! White with touches are dark wood and open shelves :) keep in mind that wooden countertops might look great, but wood is extremely porous and holds bacteria. Which is why you no longer see it in kitchens much anymore. Just something to research ahead of time. Otherwise go for it and keep cutting boards on hand! :)

  41. I love your white kitchen and the style of it.
It looks easy to cook in. I have a thing for
white cabinets and I love that you took a door
off to have baskets in. I have to live with
maple cabinets-and they are new so I cannot
paint them yet. I think the white walls are
    a good choice!

  43. Hi there. I love your kitchen and the colours are beautiful. I'm trying to place shelving like this in my pantry in my 130 year old house. I have thick planks but not sure how to finish them. I love the finish on your shelves, can you please tell me what you used? Colour, product, finish? I can't seem to get it right. Thanks so much.

  44. Hi,
Is the trim Benjamin Moore simply white also? Thank you

    ReplyDelete
  45. Love the Simply White! Are the cabinets and trim in a brighter white? I can see a bit of contrast in your photos...love that! Right now my kitchen is painted sage on the cabs and butter cream on the walls (OLD cabs that need to be replaced, was a quick fix...thinking I may need to go white on the walls for a change up. :)

  46. I, too, am wondering about the trim. Same color, different finish? Or different white altogether?
