The strawberries that are beginning to show up in local markets have been so delicious and remind us that spring is just around the corner. I picked these up yesterday and they are so sweet and juicy that we didn't have to add any sugar to them. They were also so pretty that I wanted to take a few photos of them in this cute little container I picked up at Anthropologie. I love little containers like this to hold fresh produce and can't wait to use it to harvest our cherry tomatoes from the garden this summer.
On another note, hubby and I had so much fun celebrating our anniversary yesterday. The weather was gorgeous, we shared lunch together outside and he brought me beautiful tulips, my favorite. Nothing fancy but the absolute perfect day with my man.
I hope everyone has a beautiful day today. I am home sick in bed with whatever strep/fever/sore throat virus my children have been passing around since Christmas. So I'm going to treat myself to some movie watching as I stare out the window at the beautiful weather.
But at least I have my beautiful tulips to cheer me up.
I'd love to know, what do you all like to do with fresh strawberries? Do share!
Mix some sugar with sour cream and dip strawberries in it. It's so yummy! Also strawberries in crepes with some whipped cream or strawberries just plain as a snack. I love strawberries and I'm always so happy when they finally come back in season!
ReplyDeleteOh I love crepes! I've never tried the sour cream thing but I'm sure going to, sounds great!
DeleteStrawberries like that? I'd eat 'em fresh, right out of the container...that is, if my daughter didn't get to them first!
ReplyDeleteI like to eat them fresh off the vine. I also slice them and stir them in organic yogurt. I also like to dip them in chocolate or a nice, easy dessert. Make strawberry shortcake, strawberry smoothies and on and on....
ReplyDeleteHope you feel better soon!
Thank you!
DeleteI was in the grocery store yesterday and noticed how pretty and bright all the fruit and vegetables were...I couldn't wait to get home to put them in bowls and photograph them!
ReplyDeleteI love that little basket...your strawberries look perfect in it. I just wash mine off and dunk them in the sugar bowl. :)
enjoy today ~ Sarah
That's usually what we do too, Sarah! The usually don't last long!
Deletethey look so pretty!!
ReplyDeleteYum! Seeing your post makes me hopeful that spring will be coming to Indiana soon also.
ReplyDeleteI have purchased strawberries twice already this year! Crazy, huh?
ReplyDeleteWe typically eat them as is, but we also love and adore fruit salsa.
Dice up strawberries, 2 kiwi, and 1 cored, peeled granny smith apple. Add in 1T brown sugar and 1Tablespoon any flavor jelly/jam you wish. It creates a salsa like look/gel and is perfect for cinnamon sugar tortillas, vanilla wafers, and by itself.
Jen, that sounds delicious! I'm definitely going to make that. Thanks for sharing!
DeleteMy birthday is in April and I always ask for Strawberry short cake. My girls usually make an angle food cake and just mash up some berries- best cake ever- and of course some whip cream!! Love the salsa recipe- going to have to try that one!!
ReplyDeleteI love those containers, I have a couple. I use the tan one as a sponge holder by the sink. I like to make basil/strawberry smoothes or cocktails =)
ReplyDeleteI actually like to dip mine in vanilla pudding! Cold strawberries and cold vanilla pudding!
ReplyDeleteDitto everyone else. I also puree them and use them instead of milk when I'm making a buttercream. Goes great with a white cake.
ReplyDeleteFor a salad, baby spinach, sliced almonds, goat cheese, sliced strawberries and homemade dressing. So yummy!
Great idea with the buttercream! Sounds delish!
DeleteOh, I forgot to add that I'm quite jealous. There's still snow on the ground in Maine...strawberries seem like such a distance way. But the good news is we had homemade strawberry jam from last summer on homemade english muffins today. The joys of preserving!
DeleteDon't be. :) Our spring weather was very short lived. Supposed to be very cold the next few days. Again. I'm just learning to preserve and I love it! Love strawberry jam!
DeleteI love your new profile picture...can you get any cuter? Sorry to hear you're under the weather, both hubby and myself had the crud before and after Christmas so hopefully we've got that behind us.
ReplyDeleteI love, love, love strawberries! When we moved my mom to assisted living, I got her ice creme goblets which she used to pile high with vanilla ice cream and top with sweet fresh strawberries....wish I had one of those right now.
Have a great weekend,
Judy
Good morning. I hope you are feeling much better.
ReplyDeleteYour strawberries in the basket are gorgeous. I always love to eat them fresh, but homemade strawberry shortcake with homemade ice cream and whipped cream is a MUST! Have a wonderful Saturday. I am off to fill a bag from my closet for our 40 bags of stuff in 40 days. Love de-cluttering...especially when the kiddies are participating! Love to You, Diana!
Thanks Lisa! Slowly starting to feel better! Have a wonderful weekend sweet friend! xoxo
DeleteI hope you're feeling much better! The strawberries are just gorgeous. I love them as they are or in a sugar-free pie that I make often in season. It's been beautiful here the past few days...really creating spring fever!

I got the same berry box at Crate & Barrel - so cute! Strawberries really do mean Spring is near!
ReplyDeleteMy family's favorite is dipping them in sour cream and then brown sugar. D-lish!
ReplyDeleteI love putting cool whip on them and eating them :) Thanks so much also for stopping by our blog and commenting on our family room. I appreciate it :)
