The Little Things

Hey there!  I apologize for the lack of posts recently and the lack of commenting on your blogs, as well.  Holidays are tough and this one was a doozy.  But I'm looking forward to what's in store for the New Year.  And I'm looking forward to getting back to regular blogging.  With that said, I wanted to share one of my favorite sayings........
After posting pics of my newly renovated studio at our shop, I received a lot of emails asking what the difficult to read quote is on the chalkboard on the wall.  So I thought I'd share it. And for anyone wondering, that chalkboard is just a piece of plywood painted with chalkboard paint.  I suppose that I could've put a frame around it but hey, I was lazy. :)
"If the divine creator has taken pains to give us delicious and exquisite things to eat, the least we can do is prepare them well and serve them with ceremony."  Fernand Point.
I love this quote as well.  I found it in one of my favorite cookbooks from Charlie Trotter.

What are your favorite sayings or quotes?  As always, I'd love for you to share!

  8. Hi Diana,

It is always a good day when I log on and see you have a new blog post......
There are so many expressions and sayings that come to mind for me, some that Mother used that were funny and usually had a curse word or two in them but in a weird way were words of wisdom. Than there are ones that my MIL uses that she says in Italian. I think MY favorite one is "Life is short, eat dessert first". We are so busy with life that we forget to slow down, to stop and smell the roses, to eat dessert first, to enjoy what is right in front of our eyes.

  12. Hi Diana,

I'm pretty new to your blog too. I am so excited to try some of my own ideas with pallets and barn wood after seeing your posts. You are such an inspiration. My husband just brought home a truck load of pallets for me to start with. :] If you have any tips or tricks for taking them apart, that would be much appreciated!
One of my favorite quotes is "Live the life you love, and Love the life you live." I am not sure who it is by, but I love it.

Thanks for all your great inspiration!!

  13. The quote that stares at me every time I sit down at the computer is, "Insanity: Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results". A couple other faves are, "As long as you have bread and wine, you can laugh in the face of destiny" and "If you would be happy all your life, plant a garden".
Good to see you pop up in my Reader. :)

  19. Thanks for sharing what the quote was with us all.
I don't have one particular quote that I like. I mostly like scripture....and there is tons of that. Can't narrow it down to one.

  22. Just happened to stumble upon your site while looking for info on using reclaimed lumber for countertops. Your home is lovely and I am much appreciating your budget savy ways.
We purchased a century old farmhouse this fall (that sadly, was 'updated' in the 70's). My goal is to recapture the feel of a hundred year old home room by room. In our kitchen I am wanting to do the plank counter top. Am wondering what you would recoment that I apply after oil and stain to create a non-permiable surface. Not worried about food prep as the island will have a food safe butcher block top.

  23. I would definitely use polyurethane to seal the surface.
