Hey there! Have a good weekend? My hubby and I worked on a pallet project together and we had so much fun! It was just one of those great weekends, you know? We worked on this and then he surprised me with a special date night. Something we haven't had time to do in a while so it was extra special. And then we had a fun family day on Sunday. Those are the best kinds of weekends.
I'm so glad hubby was there to help. Those suckers are heavy and it was just plain fun working on something together. We recently purchased a vintage record player, yes, I said record player, for our outdoor "studio", so we popped on an old Dean Martin album, turned up the volume and got to work. Fun, I tell ya! :) Here's what we started with, a pile of free pallets.
And here's how it ended up.....
This was one of those projects where I just kinda planned it as I went along and when we were finished, we just couldn't stop grinning.
Everything we used for this bench was something we already had so it was FREE! Love that! I really wanted to use rustic barn hinges on this because we have been collecting them for quite a while, just waiting on the perfect project and this was it. The detail they add is perfect for this bench.
Hubby came home with those numbers above the ledge. They are from an old gas station and since Halloween is around the corner, I thought the number 31 would be appropriate and fun.
I can't wait to decorate this area for Christmas!! Any of you have any pallet projects? What kinds of projects are you working on? Would love to hear about 'em, as always!
Have a great day! Click here to order more bread boards! I've had several requests for sets of 5 or 6 numbered maple boards. If interested, message me via Etsy and I will set up a custom order for those. Thanks!

ReplyDeleteLOVE this and would love to make one for my own home! Will you be posting a tutorial?
ReplyDeleteAwesome! Love, love, love it!!
ReplyDeleteThe bench came out great! The hinges are the icing on the cake. Love love the ticking pillow. Did you make it?
ReplyDeleteHi Cheryl, yes I made the pillow with cheap ticking fabric and a strip of burlap that I added grommets to. I just attached the grommets to both ends of the burlap and then wrapped it around the pillow after I made it, then threaded hemp twine through the grommets and tied it underneath.
ReplyDeleteKFowler, although we didn't take pictures of the bench building project process, I will try to put together a tutorial for everyone. :)
I would love to see the plans for this project. We recently renovated our front porch and this would be a great addition. Thanks for sharing.
Deleteany chance on a quick write up like your husband did with the Kitchen Table, these projects look amazing, and My wife and I would love to get a chance to try this.
DeleteAny chance we can get a quick write up, kind of like the one your Husband did for the kitchen table. This looks amazing.
Deleteany chance on getting some picture of the inside. Looks amazing, great job both of you.
DeleteI love your rustic bench. It looks great....Don't you just love projects that are free of charge? Nice job.
ReplyDeleteJust gorgeous! The bench is fabulous and the whole space is just beautiful. Thanks for sharing xxxx
ReplyDeleteYou are so creative! I love free & especially when you can make it yourself. Is this a storage bench? I assume the top can raise because you used the hinges.
ReplyDeleteUnbelieveable!! I am in love...
ReplyDeleteI have to tell you that I have only recently discovered your blog, and already I am HOOKED. Your sense of style is just amazing, and I am totally inspired with each new post. This bench is just gorgeous in so so many ways! LOVE it!! Sending you smiles from Sunny South Africa :)
ReplyDeleteDiana...you really need to write a book, so that we can flip through it all of the time, and have it sitting out so that our friends can enjoy it, too. Love the bench and the memories made to go along with it! How loverly....oh and the record player...THE funniest thing ever! Happy Monday!
ReplyDeleteSo much for texting...funnest...not "funniest"...oops.
ReplyDeleteYou and your hubby are so resourceful!
ReplyDeleteHonestly! So awesome! It would also look great at the end of a bed to add that rustic element to a room. I just love it.
ReplyDeleteIt looks great Diana! We actually have a couple pallets in our garage that we acquired after the tornado, they have been all over our neighborhood now that people are getting their homes fixed, all the deliveries are on pallets! We might have to do something like this... hmmmm??? Definitely inspired!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this look. Great job! Was it hard to take the pallets apart? Any tips/pointers?
ReplyDeleteDana @ craftedniche.wordpress.com
Thanks Dana! It was hard to take the pallets apart, my hubby did that part. He used a crow bar thingy and a hammer. Some pallets are easier to take apart than others, I think it just depends on what kind of pallets you get. :)
ReplyDeleteLOVE!LOVE!LOVE! May I steal this whole scene? Is there a way to cut and paste it right into my house?
ReplyDeleteThe bench is great. I especially love your shelf above the bench. Did you buy it or make it? If you made it do you have a tutorial for it?
ReplyDeleteThanks
Hannah
This is fabulous! I showed it to my husband who also loves to work with wood and now he is itching to make one too! I just love your style! Thanks for sharing this! xo
ReplyDeleteI am in serious love with this pallet-turned-bench! I love the whole setting. Great job!

ReplyDeleteLove this! can you post a tutorial?! Or a general idea how you started?
ReplyDeletelove this tutorial please!
ReplyDeleteOMW its like you read my mind!!!! please year tutorial so I can have my hubby make this for me....LOVE IT!!!
ReplyDeleteHow many pallets did you use to make the bench? Did you stain the wood after? I love how it turned out, I really want to give it a try.
ReplyDeleteCould you take a picture of the inside? I am interested in how you structured it. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteWhere did you find the ledge above the bench? We have an entryway that I would love to add a ledge like this to!
ReplyDeleteWhat about the ledge/hooks above the bench - did you make this as well?? Im looking for something exactly like that for my entryway.
ReplyDeletethanks!
Will you be providing a tutorial on the bench?!?!?!?
ReplyDeleteWould love a tutorial! ;)
ReplyDeletegreat bench (and house!) did you do anything to the finish of the wood? it looks more rustic/weathered in the final pictures than the wood on the original pallet... but perhaps it was just the camera setting? thanks!
ReplyDeleteAnd this was the pin the I fell in love with. Love the repurposed bench!
ReplyDeletelove this!!!! what does the inside look like? Did you use any stain? poly? sanding?
ReplyDeleteHow did you make this? I need a bench also, for when my kids come in and throw their shoes everywhere, is there storage inside? Do you ever share your plans and explain how you did it/would you share? Thanks!!
ReplyDeleteI would love to know how you did this!!! I love everything on your site. You are an inspiration! : )
ReplyDeleteCan you please tell us how ou made the bench. I LOVE it and would love to make one also. Ihabe my hubby on the lookout for pallets ;)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful porch. Love it beautifully done.love the stripes on the floor and the mason jar. Lighting.
ReplyDeleteThis goes to show that we can lessen the amount of trash by trying to reuse parts of old or destroyed cantilever benches and use our imagination to create new kinds of furniture just like the sample given in this post.
ReplyDeleteMay I ask, you wouldn't happen to know the Name of the Color on your wall would you?
ReplyDeleteI love the shelf above the bench. Can you tell me how you made it or where you got it?
ReplyDeleteCan I ask where you got the white shelf? I have been looking for something like this and can't find anything!
ReplyDeleteDid you do a tutorial? If so where can I find it?
ReplyDeletedid you ever do a tutorial for the bench? If so where can i find it....I want to make this asap! It will go so great in my house. After seeing your pallet ideas that's all i wanna do!
ReplyDeleteThe shelf above the bench actually looks like a mantelpiece? I did something similar with a bunch of old pallets I picked up from a junk store for nothing – the guy just wanted to clear a space. We kept them as they were and painted them white, added some pillows on the top and now use them as sitting areas in the kids’ room. The benches you have made – they could have a hinged top and be used as a storage space too perhaps?
ReplyDeleteHi there! I've got loads of access to pallets and have recently started looking up stuff on how to up cycle them.. I was wondering if you had step by step pictures/intructions as to how you guys built this bench. It looks amazing and is definitely something I can do for our own house...Thanks a lot!!!
ReplyDeleteLove everything about this! Super cute!
